Dad's Day

While the entire archipelago is paying tribute to all the fathers in the household, I am here treating the day as rather ordinary. No matter how I try to be a part of the event, I can't actually relate myself from it – by heart.

First off, I am not a father yet. Secondly, I never had the chance to play along with my father. Not an occasion that I had the so-called bonding moment with him. I didn't feel what it is like to have a father at all. When I was a growing kid and went curious to everything, he was not there to entertain my questions. When I had myself circumcised, he was not there to give moral support. When I had a crush for the first time, he was not there to be my confidant. When I was an adolescent and started to explore on adult stuffs, he was not there to explain my limitations. As a result, I learned to be timid. I felt lost. I felt left behind.

Until I reach this age.

Part of me is envious. To the son who plays basketball with his dad. To the son who is being taught how to play guitar by his dad. To the son who is receiving monthly allowance from his dad. To the son who is being scolded because he messed up with the wrong peers. I wonder what it feels like being guided by a father.

Before my mom and dad parted their ways when I was about four years of age, I seldom see my dad at home. At night, he had to go off the shore. While during daytime, he was in the farm. Yes, he was a fisherman and a farmer at the same time. During Martial Law era, Samar was indeed a grueling place to live at. People had to really work hard to survive. The word “pleasure” has no space in everyone’s home. This might be the reason why we ended up to a broken family.

In her attempt to alleviate our status in life, my mom went to Manila and there she contracted marriage to another man. I didn't know if she was worried about us having no father to guide, either she couldn't simply carry the burden of raising us alone or she is still a woman that needs a man to live with. Be that as it may, only one thing was certain, she had put ourselves in jeopardy.

My step-dad never succeeded in his attempt to steal the role of a father to me. That probably explains why he, in turn, gave us a miserable life. He was a drunkard. My mom was a battered wife. He turned evil when he's under the influence of liquor – he respects no one. I will never forget those nights while I was on a deep sleep and suddenly awakened by a loud banging of the door and smashing of the kitchen utensils with simultaneous utterance of unremarkable words. It was consistent that every after drinking spree, he runs amok. We're all conquered by fear. We couldn't do anything as if we had no other alternative except to embrace this fate. True enough that notwithstanding our association to the umbrella of the so-called “poverty”, I did not consider it as my top problem. I could have been happier, despite of this mediocre life, had I granted instead of a happy and complete family.

At this rate, I know it's pointless to narrate further. I do not want to key in every details as these are memories not worthy to preserve for. The saga had long been laid to rest charging all to experience. After all, were it not of the struggles and sufferings, I couldn't have learned being independent.

This is now the 2nd Season of my life story. This time, I am in control.

I may not have given the opportunity to enjoy the benefit of having a dad, but I still have the chance to prove my worth by being the best dad ever to my soon-to-be child.

Psst.... meron bang Huling El Bimbo??

HALAAAAAAA HALAAAAAAA TULOY BA TALAGA REUNION CONCERT NG E'HEADZ SA AUGUST 30 O ANO??... ANU BANG KAHANGALAN 'TO:

---------------------oOo-----------------------

"Dr. Maricar Limpin of the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control Alliance Philippines (FCAP) criticized Philip Morris, manufacturer of Marlboro for its Red List.

The “Red List” is the cigarette manufacturing firm’s new way of promoting their products through the Internet. Those who register on the “Red List” get invited to special events that give away cigarettes and drinks to guests. The Red List registration site is reportedly being used for the upcoming reunion concert of the Eraserheads on August 30. Those who want to get hold of free tickets simply need to register on the “Red List”. Limpin said FCAP has been monitoring the registration site, and the group has learned that even non-smokers, most of them young, have already applied for free tickets to the concert.

The Department of Health (DoH) on the other hand, said Philip Morris International Inc. has violated the Philippine tobacco law by sponsoring the Eraserheads reunion concert. Health Undersecretary Alexander Padilla said Philip Morris violated Republic Act 9211 or the Tobacco Regulation Act of 2003, which prohibits tobacco advertising from sponsoring events like concerts.

Meanwhile, Louis Camilleri, chairman and chief executive officer of Philip Morris International, said in a letter: “The promotional event you refer to is an invitation-only event, not open to the general public. It is restricted to our trade partners and to adult smokers who can obtain an invitation by registering on our adult-only access website, where they must provide proof of age through a government issued ID.”

Una, dapat 18 years old ka pataas...

PURPOSE NG POST NA ITO:

~Message in the Bottle~

The letter should be delivered to the recipient by all means because the fate of the world is at stake....

The letter goes like this:

Ms. Capulet,

I don’t know where to start… In the same manner that you didn’t know also where to end our game back then… You didn’t even notice that it has ended, did you??…

You are under this impression that all this time you’ve been unfair to me… Though I assured you that you have not, you insisted to put all the blame on yourself…You said you’re being haunted by the thoughts of the past… That you have this lapse in judgment and flaws in your decisions… you are now trying hard to redeem your blunder…

Do you remember that day when we exchanged our farewells???.. You even cried with remorse then, didn't you??… according to you, those tears are for me… those tears elucidate that somehow you couldn’t afford to lose one like me… though, I can’t rely on your word, part of me says I should… but only one thing was certain for me then… you chose him over me…

You probably have no idea that when you struck me with your dagger of love, you left an unfathomable wound on my chest that it stopped my blood from running through my veins… My heart ceased functioning since… My eyes started to see nothing but blacks and whites… I couldn't hear the bird chirping or the waterfalls flowing… I couldn’t smell the fresh air in the morning so as the aroma of the coffee I’m sipping… I couldn’t touch the feathers on the angel’s wings… because you took away my emotions… I felt numb… I felt as if you placed me in that dismal prison sealed… feeble...helpless… alone...

But what you have seen is the opposite instead...

I tried to live in the most possible normal way that I could… I wanted to show you that what you did has actually never fucked me up... That my heart never halted from beating... I still got a long trip to travel in the first place... and I need to go on...

Not so long since I realized that I shouldn't have given you up that easily... I forgot to look myself in front of the mirror that I have not seen my deficiencies... you taught me this lesson: You wouldn't realize the importance of the thing you have unless you lost it...

Fate intervened...there you are at the opposite end of the road... waiting.... even you are not expecting that we are about to meet at the intersection... according to you, your feet unconsciously brought you there... now you are asking me if I will be going with you on you next journey???....

Yes, I will...

Mr. Montague

tsk tsk.... anu daw un??....
